When I was a little girl looking for love and approval in all the wrong places, I had no clue what that meant. Honestly, it made me a little bit angry when she would say that.

As I grew older I looked for many things to make me happy. I just knew that when I could make my own choices, I would be happy. I was sure that when I had a job, that I would be happy. As an adult, I tried shopping, crafting (To the tune of an entire closet of unfinished craft ideas!), everything from selling cosmetics to candles, food, cigarettes and evenly cleaning! There wasn’t a self-help book, an internet study or a class that I could find true happiness in.

If that wasn’t enough, apparently like many women in the south, if I wasn’t happy, then no one else in my life could be happy either. They have a name down here for people like me….busy body! I, I, I, I….was a busy body!! Yes, you heard it here first….Kimberly Scott; CEO of Busy Body, Inc. The funny thing is that when I found true completeness in my life, I wasn’t concerned so much with the personal lives of others. I was quickly demoted (or promoted, depending on how you look at it!) from my CEO spot!

It took a while to get it, but God slowly (because I don’t catch on quickly) revealed to me that only true happiness can be found by seeking Him first. It’s pretty plain in His word in Luke, chapter 11; “For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

How many times have you knocked on the wrong door, seeking happiness? There never seems to be enough, does there? He is sufficient and plentiful. One of the great secrets to happiness is that if you aren’t finding it on Earth, look to the heavens. There you will find that little extra that you just can’t seem to get from any other source.

Unlike the closet in my house filled with all of the unfinished crafts (they love me at Michael’s!), your incomplete heart can be repaired and refilled with one knock on that door. Many of the incomplete crafts in that closet needing special equipment to complete, you only need one tool. The ultimate tool! Jesus Christ!

Growing Up in the South

"Calling" on Jesus

When you are born south of the Mason-Dixon Line, you tend to get a different perspective on life. Down here in Georgia we gaze from inside our little bubble and pretend that everyone in the world calls each other darlin’ and spends Sunday at Church, followed by a large Sunday dinner.

One of the first important lessons of my life was the admission to myself that everyone isn’t just like me and that is not only okay, is a good thing! God created each of us in His image, but as different as each snowflake! Oh snowflakes, now there is another Georgia type story I could tell ya, but I digress.

While working in Conference Calling in Atlanta, Georgia in my early 20s, I was fortunate to work with some fabulous people from throughout the world. Even over the phone, folks could tell that I was from Georgia and very often narrow it down right to an accent from the Atlanta area. It never failed that someone would have a very positive comment about my accent and it would begin a dialog of asking questions about the South and open me up to ask questions about their neck of the woods as well. In that short period of time I became ‘well traveled’ and developed a sensitivity about other cultures and really begin to see the world more like God sees it.

Up until that time, I tried very hard to hide my southern slang. I was a bit ashamed of this accent, but it was meeting and greeting people from other cultures and even other parts of the America and how they embraced and celebrated my tiny southern voice that assisted in the beginning of being “me”. The me that God created me to be.

On one particular occasion while training a new operator, she picked up the phone to dial an attendee on a conference call. She was brand new to the position and very nervous! Trying hard not to show her nerves, she sat straight up her chair, adjusted her headset and dialed the phone number, with all the confidence she could muster, she asked for Jesus Suarez and pronounced it EXACTLY the way it looked! (In the Hispanic culture it is phonetically, Hey-Zoos.) Right then and there I absolutely DIED laughing at the beauty of it all.

It wasn’t until much later that I realized something very important. Jesus is the very same, but very different for us all. He is even different depending on what is going on in your life at that very minute. He may be The Healer, The Counselor, The Mediator, The Great I Am, The Father, The Son or The Holy Spirit…should I go on? No matter how you say His name, it is clearly important to Him that we call Him, call Him often and call on Him without ceasing.

Hebrew 3:1 tells us “Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus.

Change, change...or is it Chains??

Since my BF believes that writing again would be a great outlet for me....let's give it a shot! Leaders in the Church, leaders in the community, leaders in business, leaders in education...you get the picture.

Many would argue the qualifications of a leader. Dedication, worth of respect, honesty and great communication skills are a few that come to mind. As I grow older, I am learning what it really takes to be a leader. This blogger is here to make a bold statement and shout out that it takes only ONE qualification to be a good leader! Have I peeked your interested yet?

The Beatles said it best....All you need is LOVE. Yes, LOVE is all you need. Who is the author of love? Our Father and King...Jesus Christ! There is no other topic discussed more in His book than love! Christ was bold to even say that the GREATEST commandment is love!

If love is the focus of your life than it dictates your actions and choices bringing them all to the center of what true leadership really looks like. Putting others before yourself and focusing on how you can love them! When you truly love someone you have a laser eye on how your own actions have a personal consequences on the ones that you have been called to lead.

My personal message to those in our world that proclaim themselves leaders. Please take a moment each and every day to ask yourself these questions....

Are the statements I am making with the way that I choose to live giving a message of love for the ones around me?

Are the words that I choose coming from the central focus of love?

Are the decisions I am making going to have loving consequences on the futures of the people in my follow.

Anyone have any other questions that you believe leaders should ask themselves on a daily basis?

The Leader of all Leaders in my life is Jesus Christ and ask we should all be striving to be more Christ like, then maybe our Leaders need to take His book and use it as an instructional manual for how to lead a flock. WOW...what a fabulous world it would be if our instruction manual was always the Word?!

God Unfolding Plans in Life

It is funny how different people tick. I am a person that likes change, but I don't often go out and seek it. God has been very clear about my life and what types of careers I am to have. He has through His clear actions in life, made sure that I know exactly where my priorities of God, then Family...then my job are.

With that said, it is my husband that has the true career and my career is taking care of him and rising our family. With homeschooling our kids being the priority at home. I have had several jobs over the last 15 years, but I haven't had a career and honestly, I am good with that!

The funny thing is that although I have never had a career, I have always enjoyed the jobs that God has placed in my path and I am always ready to move when He needs me to. But I only move when things get hurtful. God knows me well! He knows that my heart is very tender and I trust easily and hurt badly.

That is exactly the situation that I am in now. I am hurting...just hurt! My dreams of the future with my current job are very quickly crashing down around me. Promises of someone that I thought to be a true mentor (and mentoring to her at the same time) is no longer. The future of making real change in this work to help kids...isn't going to be. Being a important part of the lives of teens and molding them into what God intends for them to be, not going to happen like we thought it would.

But...a whole new horizon is in my sights! God always has plans to prosper us and never to harm us! Although the pain is real...it isn't harmful because my Father promised me it wouldn't be!

My business is blooming into a booming future for me and my family. God knows the deepest desires of our hearts and my truly has always been being home with my girls. My 18 year old daughter is now working full-time and is in an apprenticeship programs learning to do hair. Her life is full and she is growing up fast, but still loves it that I am home when she gets home.

So...hurt can be good if you know where to put it and in my life it is a sign that God is about to start performing miracles in my life!

Better than I expected!

It isn't often in life when you looks so forward to something and it turns out better than you expected!

Off the top of my head I can think of twice that this has happened to me.

First....when I went to Graceland two years ago. ALL my life I wanted to go and see the place where the King lived. When I say all my life, I really mean all of my life! Finally, in 2007 my dream came true and honestly I cried through most of the tour because it was so fabulous!

Secondly....Thursday, April 23 when I picked up my new Babylock Ellure Plus Embroidery Machine. OMG! Can I tell you that this is the most awesome piece of technology that I have ever had my hands on?!? I am so blessed to now have two of the Cadillac's of machines in my house....two Babylocks!

I have already monogrammed everything in my house that I can get my hands on and I have created a digital logo for my company as well. It's good! It is so good!!!

The new embroidery machine is almost here!

As a sewer and handbag designer, probably the most asked question I get asked is "Can you embroider/monogram?" I have two shows this weekend, so life has been go, go, go and go again for the last few weeks getting ready. Because I am so hyper prepared for stuff like this, I am normally completely finished with the prepping long before said events and then left with twiddling thumbs until it is time for the big day.

So what I am doing now? Twiddling my thumbs of course! The girls are avoiding me like a disease in the event that I am going to ask them if they need me for anything. Their school work is more than caught up and they are done with crafting for now.

Does that mean that there isn't anything at all to do? OH NO! I could vacuum, sweep, clean cabinets, wash walls, change sheets, rake leaves, give dog baths, etc. and etc. But...who in their right minds would want to do that stuff?

Where in the world is Kim Scott this weekend?

Saturday, November 15 - Initial Grace, Tyrone GA from 2pm to 6pm
Sunday, November 16 - McDonough Arts Council, Art in the Park, McDonough Square 1pm to 5pm

See ya there!

Finally!

Doesn't the election season seem to go on and on and on and on? I am a huge politics buff, constantly reading and watching the news to make an educated vote. I have taken advantage of my right to vote since I was 18 years old. (I won't tell you how long ago that was, don't ask! LOL)

With all of that said, even I am sick of hearing about it. The only positive thing about the over abundance of election coverage is that we aren't hearing all of the negative news coming from Afghanistan and Iraq. Since my son is a War Vet, I don't want to hear about the negative, I want to hear all about the good things that are going on over there. But I digress....

Tonight at 8:51PM ET, there isn't anything else at all on television that doesn't have something to do with the election. Even the Comedy Channel is going to be covering it. So what am i doing? Watching Fox News and....lovin' it!

See you guys tomorrow for a history making final vote!

November 1 UPDATE

Well, my boys lost to Florida and lost bad! I kid you not, there were tears and running noses in my house tonight. I had to go and do a little shopping to feel better.

In my house I am the sports fan. My husband has been known to be hanging out in the bedroom watching movies while I am watching Football on HD in the living room. It is actually my son's fault that I am a sports nut. Now almost 23, when he was a teenager I would do anything to hang out with him a bit and that meant doing things that was of interest to him. Hence, I am not a sports fan!

With my teenage daughter, Taylor I am not addicted to shopping since it is the only thing (other than her boyfriend) that she wants to do with me as of late. I wonder if she wants to hang with me or my wallet? Well, that is the million dollar question isn't it?

Look Mom! I completely understand technology (Although, I am lost at the teen lingo most of the time.) I am an avid shopping and seller on eBay and Etsy. I really do use my webcam to speak to my Son in Italy. I text as well as any teenager and think nothing of sending a picture using my Blackberry. My iPod is the latest, my laptop is the newest technology....heck, I even just upgraded my sewing machine for new technology.

So why...oh why....can't I remember to blog?!? I was blogging on my own website before the fabulous discovery of the blogging websites. What's is up with this!

Well, since it is Halloween the time to start new traditions. Maybe the new traditions holiday is Thanksgiving? Hmm? Anywho, it seems like a great time to start blogging again!

Welcome back all my blogging friends. With that said, each of my days are starkly different from one another giving me a new story each and every day.

One day I may find the entire day being spent in the writing mode for my various writing jobs or outlets. Another day may be spent scooping ice cream at Bruster's while hanging out with the teenagers there, which is my favorite ministry in my life current. While another morning could be used to return phone calls and emails and land in the late evening at the pool with my girls or hanging out on the couch watching The Disney Channel.

Yes, there are those days where nothing seems to go right! They may start with something as small as a broken nail or you forgot to start the dishwasher the night before or as large as your computer won't come on or you woke up late and missed the meeting of a lifetime. Either way I believe that a few things are important to note.

Note to self #1: God is always in control!

While I never doubt He has got a master task list of my life, sometimes I wonder if some of the things on my list are merely for His enjoyment. Let's take this morning for example when I opened the bathroom door to find my puppy (an 8 month old, 80 pound Lab) sitting next to a huge pile of well....you know, with a smell so bad that making dressing for work in that room shockingly impossible! Have you tried applying your make-up in the kitchen by the light of the sink? We will be lucky if I don't show up for this meeting looking a little like Rosanna Rosanna Danna!

Note to self #2: This too shall pass!

I know in the middle of it all time seems to be passing in slow motion, very similar to waiting on Christmas when you are a child. Remember the alternative is that time stops and I am not ready for that moment yet. I try to find a way to laugh at it all. Back to this morning with the dog. Nothing is funnier than seeing your kids run all throughout the house, holding their noses looking for all of the necessary items to clean up the mess and remove the smell. If I close my eyes I can laugh about it now, hours later!

Note to self #3: Ask for help when you need it!

I am not the spokesperson for the Ask For Help Club. As a matter of fact, since I am usually the one helping, it is very uncomfortable for me to ask for help. That is until I moved into my current neighborhood. I have the best of friends that are as much my family as my own family and they not only help me out on a consistant basis, they insist on helping! Sometimes it takes someone getting right in your business to make you understand that it 'takes a village' to get the job done!

So wheither it is a broken nail or you just woke up, late for a meeting and your hair is a mess....the moral of the story is sometimes you have to "Pull up your big girl panties and deal with it!" That is something that we girls in the south are pretty good at!

Blessings

Have you ever been looking at the world around you and really understand how blessed you are with the life that God designed just for you? I know we are all grateful in a worldly sense, but I am talking about gratefulness in a Godly sense.

It is honestly true that God needs you to play a part if ever moment of your life to create the person that He needs you to be. But have you ever wondered why some suffer so to make those changes in their lives and others don't? Don't get me wrong, I am not questioning it, but I am taking a whole new look at my own life and how very, very blessed my family is.

Almost everyone in my life seems to be suffering lately. Because of all of this suffering I have taken a real stock of my life. I no longer feel like I have the right to complain because I have to go to the grocery store or mop the kitchen floor when I have friends and family members dealing (and handling it well!) huge problems.

There is really no one else to thank but our Father. HE is in control over every single moment of time in my life and in yours. I will forever more take the time to thank Him for all of the moments in my life that He is gently leading me down the path created FOR him and saving me from suffering.

Please constantly pray for those around you that are living in a suffering time and be really grateful for the small things in your own life.

Welcome to my Blog!

Wow, this blog software world is a whole new game huh? I have been blogging on my own website for years, but this is the first time that I have stepped into this world and it is amazing!

I guess many of you would want to know what I intend to write about. Since I have so many different things that I am passionate about, this blog will be a confetti of surprises.

I am sure that there will be much chat about Friends Helping Friends, a Childhood Cancer organization that I am honored to be on the lead team for.

Let's don't forget about the entire Bruster's Real Ice Cream world of which I am a Local Store Marketing Manager.

Never far from my thoughts is Christina Parker, my friend, my boss and the leader of The Leadership Movement Ministry that we are working on with a fabulous team of people that God has brought together.

Always on my mind and frankly closest to my heart would be my incredible family! Michael, my Husband of 13 years. DJ my oldest child and currently proudly serving in the Army with the 173 Airborne and Afghanistan. Taylor my second child, MY ROCK and fabulously talented kiddy poo. Shelby another amazing, musically gifted child. They both sing like Angels and Shelby plays the guitar like a pro at the tender age of 11! And then their is the precious baby Austyn. She is our little redhead Austyn Angel. She is the loving connection that bonds us all together.

Oh and by the way. I am a glass artist as well. We can get into that more later! Stay tuned!!

I am blessed to have an amazingly fulfilling life and I am so honored that God has chosen me to shower these blessings with. I believe that when your life is in proper balance and your surrender your ALL to Him that He will fill you up and meet your EVERY need! We honestly never want or need a thing around here. God is always on the pulse on this family, tenderly guiding us and leading us in the ways on His Kingdom.

Are we living a perfectly charmed life? Not at all! But in a world that seems to be motivated my many things, I am proud to say that our family is most assuredly motivated by love and service to God, each other, our friends, our Church and our community.
