I am not the type of girl that could stand an 8 to 5 job which is why I am sure that God has never chosen to make that a part of my life ministry. With that said, each of my days are starkly different from one another giving me a new story each and every day.
One day I may find the entire day being spent in the writing mode for my various writing jobs or outlets. Another day may be spent scooping ice cream at Bruster's while hanging out with the teenagers there, which is my favorite ministry in my life current. While another morning could be used to return phone calls and emails and land in the late evening at the pool with my girls or hanging out on the couch watching The Disney Channel.
Yes, there are those days where nothing seems to go right! They may start with something as small as a broken nail or you forgot to start the dishwasher the night before or as large as your computer won't come on or you woke up late and missed the meeting of a lifetime. Either way I believe that a few things are important to note.
Note to self #1: God is always in control!
While I never doubt He has got a master task list of my life, sometimes I wonder if some of the things on my list are merely for His enjoyment. Let's take this morning for example when I opened the bathroom door to find my puppy (an 8 month old, 80 pound Lab) sitting next to a huge pile of well....you know, with a smell so bad that making dressing for work in that room shockingly impossible! Have you tried applying your make-up in the kitchen by the light of the sink? We will be lucky if I don't show up for this meeting looking a little like Rosanna Rosanna Danna!
Note to self #2: This too shall pass!
I know in the middle of it all time seems to be passing in slow motion, very similar to waiting on Christmas when you are a child. Remember the alternative is that time stops and I am not ready for that moment yet. I try to find a way to laugh at it all. Back to this morning with the dog. Nothing is funnier than seeing your kids run all throughout the house, holding their noses looking for all of the necessary items to clean up the mess and remove the smell. If I close my eyes I can laugh about it now, hours later!
Note to self #3: Ask for help when you need it!
I am not the spokesperson for the Ask For Help Club. As a matter of fact, since I am usually the one helping, it is very uncomfortable for me to ask for help. That is until I moved into my current neighborhood. I have the best of friends that are as much my family as my own family and they not only help me out on a consistant basis, they insist on helping! Sometimes it takes someone getting right in your business to make you understand that it 'takes a village' to get the job done!
So wheither it is a broken nail or you just woke up, late for a meeting and your hair is a mess....the moral of the story is sometimes you have to "Pull up your big girl panties and deal with it!" That is something that we girls in the south are pretty good at!
